THE JADE DRAGON (Fall 2006; Candlewick Press)The Jade Dragon, co-authored by my good friend and acclaimed published author, Carolyn Marsden, is a middle-grade children's chapter book about a Chinese-American girl named Virginia "Ginny" Xin-Mei Liao. Born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, Ginny befriends an adopted girl from China and comes to terms with her Chinese and American identities. Although the book is shadowed by some autobiographical elements, it is a work of fiction.

Current Projects: 1. Sequel to The Jade Dragon. 2. Story about the San Diego wildfires. 3. Story about too many Lauras (inspired by drama amongst by 30-something friends). 4. Story about a boy who gracefully fights cancer (inspired by my dear friend from high school, Mark Alexander.) 5. Memoir about Italy!
I could not write without the honest feedback and support of my CRITIQUE GROUP. The Snail Society: Carolyn Marsden, Janice Yuwiler and Sarah Tomp. (Also, check out Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. They are an excellent resource.)
